WHEN OTHERS GRIEVE AT CHRISTMAS
Part 1: If you know someone who has experienced loss this year:
- Don’t avoid; reach out.
- It’s not about what you say but that you are present
- Name a specific way/action you can reach out [e.g. dinner, coffee, write a note]
- Don’t use spiritual platitudes [this bypasses their pain of loss]
- Don’t tell them you know how they feel. You don’t.
- Can you change up your normal traditions or way of doing things to include someone who has experienced loss? [Christmas dinner, etc.]
- Ask how they are doing. [Christmas felt like a “glass globe” experience]
